Eptifibatide is an antiplatelet medication used to prevent blood clots in patients undergoing certain heart procedures, such as percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), and in those with acute coronary syndrome (unstable angina or non‑ST‑elevation myocardial infarction). It works by blocking the glycoprotein IIb/IIIa receptor on platelets, preventing them from aggregating and forming clots. Given as an intravenous bolus followed by a continuous infusion, common side effects include bleeding, bruising, and low blood pressure.
