Indications and usage
The main character of Crown Ether is that it can combine Metal Salts, Ammonium SaltS, organic cation compounds and so on to become stable complex compound. Using this character, it can dissolve all kinds of salts
in organic solvents. Crown Ether can chelate cation, and because of possessing of the facing outer organic genes, it can also dissolve in
nonpolar organic solvents. At this time, the undissolved anions exist in solvents in the nude. Just for this, it has extremely high activity. Because. Crown Ether can make organic alkali metal dissolve in organic solvents ,
it is widely used in areas such as organic compounding , optical resolution, heavy metals chelating, detaching and fractionation, pharmaceutical and biochemical in biological activity and so on. For example, it can used as phase shifting catalysts which can make those reactions that cannot act
in traditional conditions react smoothly. These reactions are charactered
with high speed, productivity which is convenient, and can react in common condition. For example, the Condensation of Benzoin in water solution has lower productivity, while adding in 7% of Crown Ether, we can get 78% of Benzoin. This reaction can also happen in Benzene (or Acetonitrile). Although, Potassium Cyanide cannot dissolve in Benzene, adding in 18-Crown -6, it can not only make the reaction possible, but also make its productivity up to 95%. The toxicity of 18-Crown-6: lethal dose for mouse: 300mg/kg.Irritative to eyes and skin.
Method of production:
Commonly producing with Williamlin synthesis, accordingly, making
Alkoxide react with Alkylogen.
