Common technical details include a wire diameter ranging from 4.0 mm to 5.0 mm, a mesh opening of 50 mm by 200 mm, panel heights between 1.2 meters and 2.4 meters, and panel widths reaching up to 2.5 meters. For British gauge conversions: 4.0 mm is approximately 8 SWG, and 5.0 mm is roughly 6 SWG.
• Double Wire Fence (Twin Wire Fence 868 / 656 Type): This type is built using two horizontal wires (either 6.0 mm or 8.0 mm) and a single vertical wire (either 5.0 mm or 6.0 mm), delivering superior stiffness. The mesh aperture is 50 mm by 200 mm. Heights typically vary from 1.2 meters to 2.4 meters. Note that 6.0 mm equates to approximately 4 SWG, while 8.0 mm is around 1 SWG. It is an excellent choice for sports enclosures and zones requiring high security.
• Anti-Climb Fence (358 Security Mesh): Also termed prison mesh, this type is distinguished by its compact openings measuring 12.7 mm by 76.2 mm, constructed with 4.0 mm wire. Panel heights extend from 2.0 meters to 3.6 meters, with widths between 2.0 meters and 2.5 meters. The tightly woven mesh is designed to deter climbing and cutting. A 4.0 mm wire is equivalent to 8 SWG. It is often treated with hot-dip galvanization and a powder coating for enhanced resistance to corrosion.
• Airport Fence (Y Post Fence with Concertina Wire): This fencing solution integrates welded mesh panels (made with 4.0 mm to 5.0 mm wire) with Y-shaped posts and concertina razor wire. The mesh typically measures 50 mm by 150 mm or 50 mm by 200 mm, and panel heights range from 2.0 meters to 2.4 meters. The Y-post, when equipped with a razor coil, can be as tall as 3.0 meters. The usual finish includes galvanization followed by a green RAL 6005 coating.
• Temporary Welded Fence (Portable Construction Fence): This kind of fence is employed for construction areas and public events. Panels generally measure 2100 mm in height by 2400 mm in width, featuring a wire diameter of 3.0 mm to 4.0 mm and a mesh size of 60 mm by 150 mm. The base is a detachable concrete-filled plastic or metal foot. A 3.0 mm wire is equivalent to 10 SWG.
• Galvanized Field Fence (Fixed Knot or Hinge Joint Welded): This fence is predominantly utilized in agriculture. It has a vertical spacing of 150 mm, with horizontal wires of welded 2.0 mm to 3.0 mm material. Panel heights are typically between 1.0 meter and 1.5 meters. It is frequently seen on farms and in enclosures for livestock. The hot-dip galvanization process meets BS EN 10244 standards.
• PVC Coated Welded Wire Fence: This fence comprises galvanized mesh that is subsequently coated with PVC, usually in green, black, or gray. The wire core has a diameter of 2.5 mm to 4.0 mm, and the coating adds about 0.5 mm to the thickness. The aperture size is commonly 50 mm by 50 mm or 50 mm by 100 mm. Heights range from 0.9 meters to 1.8 meters. It is widely used for garden boundaries or light-duty residential applications.
