Introduction:
Guava is revered for both its vitamin content and anti-aging properties. This is because Guava is very rich in Vitamin A, B and C, and it helps prevent oxidation of cells. It can also be added to hair care products as a natural source of fiber.
They are native to Mexico, Central America, and northern South America. Most likely naturally spreading (by means of ocean drifting) to parts of Southeast Asia, the Caribbean and some parts of Africa, guavas are now cultivated and naturalized throughout the tropics, and due to growing demand that they are also grown in some subtropical regions.
Uses:
1. Guavas are rich in dietary fiber, vitamins A and C, folic acid, and the dietary minerals, potassium, copper and manganese.
2. People use guava for colic, diarrhea, diabetes, cough, cataracts, high cholesterol, heart disease, and cancer.
3. In Mexico, the Agua fresca beverage is popularly made with Guava. The entire fruit is a key ingredient in punch, and the juice extract is often used in culinary sauces (hot or cold), as well as artisan candies, dried snacks, fruit bars, desserts, or dipped in Chamoy. Pulque de Guava is a popular blend of the native alcoholic beverage.
4. In the Philippines, ripe guava is used in cooking sinigang.
5. Guava juice is very popular in Cuba, Costa Rica, Egypt, Mexico, Colombia, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Venezuela, Malaysia, Indonesia and South Africa.
