Mechanism of Action

  • Selectively inhibits intestinal NHE3
  • Reduces sodium absorption from the gut lumen
  • Increases intraluminal water content → softens stool
  • Reduces visceral hypersensitivity and abdominal pain

Indications

  • Irritable bowel syndrome with constipation (IBS‑C)
  • Chronic idiopathic constipation (CIC)
