Appearance: White to pale yellow crystalline powder.
Melting Point: 136-141°C.
Solubility: Slightly soluble in water, with a solubility of 4.3 g/L at 25°C. Soluble in organic solvents such as ethanol and ether.
pKa: 4.1 (25°C).
Synthesis: It can be prepared by carboxylation of thiophene with carbon dioxide under certain conditions. Alternatively, it can be prepared by oxidation of 3-thiophenecarboxaldehyde to obtain 3-thiophenecarboxylic acid.
