1. Physical Properties

Appearance and State: Pale yellow to light brown crystalline powder at room temperature and pressure (high-purity products are lighter in color, appearing pale yellow; higher impurity levels may cause the color to darken to brown and may cause agglomeration).

Melting Point: Approximately 210-215°C (Purity significantly affects melting point; high-purity samples have a narrow melting range, typically between 212-214°C. Impurities may lower the melting point and extend the melting range; melting point measurement can be used to provide a preliminary estimate of purity). Solubility: Possessing the dual characteristics of polarity and conjugation, its solubility is as follows:

Readily soluble in polar organic solvents such as dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO), N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF), methanol, and ethanol (solubility significantly increases upon heating);

Soluble in moderately polar solvents such as ethyl acetate and chloroform;

Poorly soluble in non-polar solvents such as petroleum ether, n-hexane, and benzene;

Solubility in water is low (approximately 0.1-0.5 g/L at room temperature), but can be increased by adjusting the pH (e.g., dissociation of hydroxyl groups to phenoloxy groups under alkaline conditions). This property facilitates purification via solvent recrystallization (e.g., in an ethanol-water system).

Optical Properties: Due to its conjugated structure, it exhibits characteristic absorption in the UV-visible region, with a maximum absorption wavelength (λmax) of approximately 270-290 nm (in methanol solution). Under certain conditions (e.g., after coordination with a metal), it can produce fluorescence, which can be used for qualitative detection.
