Physical and Chemical Properties
Appearance: Typically a colorless to pale yellow liquid with a pungent odor.
Boiling Point: Approximately 180-185°C (may be accompanied by partial decomposition at normal pressure); the boiling point decreases under reduced pressure, e.g., 75-78°C/12 mmHg (reference data).
Density: Approximately 1.51 g/cm³ (20°C, experimental value).
Refractive Index: n20/D approximately 1.470-1.475 (a characteristic value reflecting the molecular optical properties).
Solubility: Sparingly soluble in water, readily soluble in organic solvents such as ethanol, ether, acetone, and dichloromethane, and has good compatibility with most organic reaction solvents.
Stability: Decomposes readily at room temperature, becoming more unstable under heat or alkaline conditions. Requires storage at low temperatures and away from light. Bromine elimination reactions and keto-enol tautomerism are common.
