Theophylline is a chemical substance that is widely found in black tea and green tea in nature. It is a phosphodiesterase (PDE) inhibitor and can be widely used to treat respiratory diseases. It has similar structural and pharmacological properties to caffeine. The main effects of theophylline are: Relaxation of bronchial smooth muscle Strengthening myocardial contraction Accelerating heart rate Increasing blood pressure Increasing renal blood flow Some anti-inflammatory effects; Theophylline interacts with many drugs (such as anti-epileptic drugs such as phenytoin and anti-ulcer drugs such as cimetidine), so be careful of incompatibility when using it. Theophylline is mainly used in the treatment of: chronic obstructive diseases of the airways, airway cholinergic hyperfunction, chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases (COPD) and bronchial asthma.
