Geftinat 250 is an anticancer drug. It is prescribed to patients who show no improvement after going through chemotherapy. This drug is used for treating non-small cell lung cancer that has advanced locally or may have metastasized. The active ingredient in Geftinat 250mg is Geftinib.
Gefitinib, the active ingredient in Geftinat is a cytotoxic chemotherapy agent. It blocks the action of epidermal growth factor receptor, preventing the cancer cells from multiplying further. Gefitinib belongs to the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) tyrosine kinase inhibitors class of anti-cancer drugs.
Those who are allergice to Gefitinib or any other ingredient of the medicine, they should not use Gaftinat. Women who are pregnant or planning to get pregnant should also avoid Gaftinat. Nursing mothers are also advised to avoid use of Gaftinat. Patients with:
- Liver problems
- Strokes
- Heart attacks
- Depression
- Diabetes
- Allergies to any medicines
- Vision problem
- Lung diseases other than lung cancer, etc. should avoid use of Geftinat.
The doctor decides the dosage and one should follow the prescription as advised. Never take more or less of the prescribed medicine. If you miss a dose, take it immediately after you remember about it. Overdosing on Gaftinat can poisonous. Call the doctor immediately for help.
The side effects of Gaftinat include headache, constipation, dizziness, vomiting, nausea, rash, and diarrhea. If the side effects persist or worsen, call the doctor or visit the hospital immediately. Some of the serious side effects of Gaftinat include tiredness, loss of appetite, chest pain, blurred vision, bloody stools, dark urine, pain in the upper stomach, cough with fever, severe allergic or skin reactions, etc.
It is important to let the doctor know of all the drugs you take or have taken. Gaftinat can interact with other drugs in a dangerous way. Drugs such as carbamazepine, fluvoxamine, indinavir, amiodarone, clarithromycin, erythromycin, diltiazem, etc. can interact with Gaftinat. Never use any other medication before informing your doctor when using Gaftinat.
