Source: The dry leaf and stem of mint, Lamiaceae Appearance: Fine brown powder Specification: 4:1 10:1 Chemical Components: Volatile oil containing I-menthol, 1 - I-menthol)and menthol ester. Test Method: TLC Description: Peppermint extract is an herbal extract of peppermint (Mentha x piperita) made from the essential oils of peppermint leaves. Peppermint is naturalized from Europe and is found in damp places from Nova Scotia to Minnesota and south to Florida and Tennessee. It is largely cultivated, principally in Indiana, Michigan, Oregon, Washington, and California, for the production of peppermint extract. It is commonly used in cooking, as a dietary supplement, and as an herbal or alternative medicine. The powder is obtained by extracting from dried or fresh leaves and the stem of the plant using ethanol. Main Components: Menthol, with content of about 77 to 78%, followed by Menthone, with content of 8 to 12%, also containing Menthylacetate, Camphene, Limonene, Isomenthone, Pinene, and Menthenone. Menthol: Molecular Formula: C10H20O Molecular Weight: 156 Boiling Point: 212 ceilsius degree Melting Point: 41-43 ceilsius degree Functions and Indications: 1. Peppermint Extract is used to relieve intestinal colic, flatulent dyspepsia and associated conditions. 2. Peppermint is also used in the treatment of ulcerative conditions of the bowels. 3. Externally, Peppermint Extract is used to relieve itching, inflammations, and a avariety of respiratory conditions. Peppermint oil is also a great expectorant.
