Nettle Leaf Extract Latin Name: Urtica Dioica L. Synonyms: Urticae herba, Urticae radix, Stinging nettle, common nettle; Grosse brandnetel (German), Grande ortie (French), ortiga (Spanish), Grande ortica (Italian) CAS No.: 84012-40-8. Botany: Nettle belongs to the Urticaceae plant family. We use the dwarf or annual nettle, which grows all year in Egypt, North America and across Europe. It looks very similar to the common stinging nettle, but it is smaller with long stems and small, soft, green leaves. These are covered in tiny hairs and small flowers. There are several types of nettle: common nettle, Roman nettle and annual nettle. The plants are harvested as they begin to flower and are dried for infusions, liquid extracts, ointments, powders and tinctures. Herbalists use nettle for anaemia, arthritis and skin complaints. Description: Nettle popularly called as stinging Nettle or Common nettle is a perennial herb carried all over the world from Asia, Europe. The plant is characterized by hair like structures called trichomes which injects histamine when in contact. These also become the food for some species of butterfly and some moths. Immature plants were collected for food by North Americans during the time of drought . the leaves lose their stinging chemicals when immersed in water or boiled in it. Nettles have a long history of use in the home as a herbal remedy and nutritious addition to the diet. A tea made from the leaves has traditionally been used as a cleansing tonic and blood purifier so the plant is often used in the treatment of hay fever, arthritis, anaemia etc. Active Ingredient: Nettle Leaf Extract contains the mixture of roots and leaves of the nettle in certain ratio so that it can be suited many medicinal purposes. Active constituents in nettles leaf also include high levels of protein, calcium, phosphorus, iron, magnesium, and beta-carotene.
