Basic information:
Molecular formula: C₅H₅NaO₂S₂
Molecular weight: 185.21
Physical and chemical properties: Based on similar sodium thiophenesulfinate derivatives, it is speculated that it may be a solid, and the appearance may be white to off-white powder or crystals. Because it contains polar sodium sulfinate groups and non-polar methyl and thiophene rings, it is expected to be soluble in water and some polar organic solvents, such as ethanol.
Uses: As an organic synthesis intermediate, it plays an important role in the synthesis of organic sulfur compounds. It can be used to prepare a variety of organic sulfur compounds such as thiosulfonates, sulfonamides, sulfides and sulfones. It can also participate in sulfonyl radical-induced cyclosulfonylation reactions and multi-component reactions to construct more complex organic molecular structures.
