Appearance and Odor: A colorless, transparent liquid at room temperature with a characteristic "rose aroma" (the natural product is one of the main aroma components of rose essential oil, with a soft, long-lasting aroma) and no irritating odor.
Melting Point: -25.8°C (can condense into colorless crystals at low temperatures).
Boiling Point: 219-221°C (at ambient pressure). It does not readily decompose upon heating at ambient pressure and can be purified by distillation.
Density: 1.023 g/cm³ (at 20°C, slightly higher than water).
Solubility:
Slightly soluble in water (approximately 2.8 g/100 mL at 20°C), freely soluble in organic solvents such as ethanol, ether, glycerin, and oils.
It forms an azeotropic mixture with water (azeotropic point 99.9°C, containing approximately 90% phenylethyl alcohol).
Refractive Index: 1.531-1.534 (at 20°C, an important indicator for purity testing).
